Festo, one of the leading Pneumatics and mechatronics company has completed an installation for a French packaging machine company. Newly manufactured machines that make both packaging produced through the Carding process and traditional blister pack lines.

The blister packs consist of a transparent hot-shaped shell that is hot sealed to a glossy card and it is mainly used for mass-market consumer goods packing. On the other side carding process uses a clear plastic foil to create a new type of packaging. Generally the packging shows off the quality and look of the final product.

The packaging process is divided into numerous steps that focus on a transparent foil shaped to the size and contours of the specific product and the production of a cut-to-shape carrier card. The machine cuts the card to shape together with a window of transparent foil. The card is then hot-shaped according to the size and shape of the required product.

Then the product is inserted into the hot-shaped foil and the card is folded around the product. Finally, the package is sealed and trimmed.

One CPX-FEC unit monitors the hot-shaping and cutting operations in the first module of the machine. A smart positioning controller, an SPC-200, monitors and also executes the steps required to insert products in the hot-shaped shells.

The complete system is monitored through Ethernet by a panel personal computer, using the Modbus TCP protocol. The customer built the entire machine and the application software was developed by one of the customer’s engineers working in conjunction with Festo.
