CD packaging models and machineries

There is a famous saying, “first impression is the last impression”. This, itself explains the importance of packaging of any product. In fact, not just for attracting buyers, packaging plays a very important role in the durability and longevity of any product. Say for example: CDs, DVDs, VCDs etc. So, let’s have a look into CD packaging.

CD packaging can be broadly classified into five different types:

1. Generic Packaging:
This type of packaging refers to cost effective, simple and non-printed CDs from stock. These packs include simple envelopes made of paper with transparent windows, plastic envelopes and vinyl envelopes without and with seals.

2. Printed Sleeves & Wallets:
This type of packaging is the next to generic packaging. In this, wallets and sleeves consist of two to six panel sleeves of cardboard which are durable, light and even recyclable.

3. DVD Style:
In this type of packaging, there is a DVD video box which can accommodate maximum of two regular CDs along with instruction booklets, lyrics, bonus materials or some other information.

4. Jewel Cases:
This the standard type of packaging for CDs. Most of the normal audio CDs are packed in jewel cases. This case contains three-piece case made of plastic which usually holds a CD, a back card and some notes. The casing is formed with the help of two opposing see-through halves and to grip the CD there is a media tray held by the back half. Polystyrene is used to make all the three parts.

5. Digi-pack style Packaging:
This type of packaging is used for single editions of albums or CD singles. But, jewel packaging is more durable than this and hence this starts to wear off quickly. Nevertheless, this gives an added ‘luxurious’ merchandise build.

Machineries used:

cd packing machineLabeling and screen printing machines
These machines give the CDs a final touch as they are used to print the labels right on the disc as a result of which the CDs look clean with a polished appearance.

Filling machines
These machines are used to fill the CDs in the cases in bulk as manual process will take lot of time and human labor involvement.

cd case wrapping machineWrapping and sealing machines:
The most important machinery used in CD packaging is the wrapping and sealing machines. These are shrink wrapping and sealing machines. With these 150-200 CDs can be wrapped professionally into air-tight packaging in an hour with very low investment.

Some of the famous companies in the industry are Kenny Packaging Machinery, Solstice.
