Corrugate is one of the primary materials used widely today for packaging. Corrugated packaging is strong, durable, and lightweight that suits all packaging needs. It is the logical choice of the industry’s packaging needs due to its versatility and functionality. Appliances like refrigerators, freezer, laundry machines, ranges, dishwashers, water heaters, and vending machines are packaged in full-corrugated boxes for shipping and handling.

Corrugated Packaging Materials

Corrugated packaging offers remarkable tear, tensile and burst strength to withstand shipping pressures. In shipping packaging, it is in construction with three sheets of paperboard to resist impact, drop, and vibration damage.
Corrugate is generally a pack, made from paperboard, robust, and extremely durable paper-like material.
Single-sided corrugating packaging constructed out of just two sheets of paperboard is in common practice.
Thousands of different combinations of sizes, strengths, board types, flute sizes, basis weight, and treatments are also possible that gives the corrugated package its unique versatility.

Recently some innovative treatments and coatings are also available for packaging. These are mainly different coatings like flame-retardants, antistatic and even wax-type coatings. Various other kinds of coatings used in corrugated packages include polymer coating, clay coating, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polymethylpentene (PMP).
Corrugated packaging materials are environmentally friendly, highly recyclable, and cost effective too.

Machineries and technology Applied in Corrugated Packaging

The machinery of corrugated packaging includes a rotatable corrugation head with a front face and a fluted periphery. The head has an arrangement for rotation through many cycles of operation encompassing 180 degrees of rotation. The head incorporates the ways to secure materials to the face and its periphery during the operation
The machine also includes movable corrugating roller to corrugate the sheets.
The machinery of corrugated packaging consists of the following:

Sealing means to with the corrugation head for joining the outer sheet of material with the inner sheet.
Securing means helps to apply a partial vacuum pressure or suction force to sheet material to secure the material to the rotating head.
Actuation technique that is phenomena tic or hydraulic cylinder arranged for selectively moving the corrugating roller applied in corrugating packaging.
Flexible manufacturing techniques and practices also made possible by using modern improved thermo flame corrugated structures.
