Inkjet technologies in graphic package printing systems

May 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

Globally known experts in the use of inkjet technologies, package printing, digital printing and Karstedt Associates and SPIKIX are teaming up to build up a benchmark report mapping the latest progress in inkjet technologies and the next ten years of their integration into full graphic package printing systems.

Over the next decade printing systems that employ inkjet technologies will substitute some of the leading printing tools, workflows, and supply chain practices being used today. These systems will have a major impact on how packaging is shaped, printed, distributed, and managed, and could truly be a disruptive technology. For this study we are going to focus on delivering needed, exact, and actionable intelligence on the state of inkjet and connected technologies so companies can make important decisions about R&D and product development as it relates particularly to the packaging industry and its supply chain. Studies in the past have done a good job in identifying practice trends and forecasts, but we are going to take things much advance and describe where the specific technologies are going to take digital printing in packaging.

Digital printing for packaging applications has grown gradually over the past ten years. Kevin Karstedt, president of Karstedt Associates, co-author of the study, has been extremely engrossed in digital printing for packaging since the early days. Karstedt says, “Rob and I have seen it all when it comes to digital printing for packaging, as a matter of fact, we have foreseen much of what has occurred in digital printing in recent years.” Also he said, “This is a very exciting time in this industry, new inkjet technologies are emerging from well-known and lesser-known laboratories around the world that will enable the next generation of inkjet digital printing systems. This study will identify these new technologies and, more importantly, give insights into their development and use over the next ten years.”

The report is targeted for publication in late 2007 and it will be a significant tool for all participants in the packaging supply chain as it will give insights to how this supply chain will look and operate through the next generation of digital printing tools. In addition to those companies already occupied in digital printing, the report will be of critical importance to any company who manufactures workflow tools, packaging substrates, printing inks and coatings, printing and finishing equipment, and security products.
