Luminas receives five patents for PhlatLight Technology

May 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

Luminas now bagged total of 11 patents including 6 patents previously granted. Many more patents and expecting near futre as Luminus is committed to protecting its PhlatLight technology (Photonic Lattice) with IP and has filed over 100 additional U.S. and international patent applications.

The underlying photonic lattices used in PhlatLight technology direct the photons through the surface of the LED, emitting more light and in a narrower, collimated beam that is more readily captured and delivered to its target. This, combined with Luminus advanced packaging technology, enables more effective solid-state light sources than have ever been realized to date, setting PhlatLight apart as a completly new category for LEDs. Luminus has also designed a cost-effective method of producing PhlatLight LEDs in high volume, at the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Invested more than $10 million dollars in IP development and the company’s leverged portfolio now provides coverage for high-power LED chips, packaging and optical systems. While Luminus is at present manufacturing PhlatLight LEDs for large screen high-definition displays, PhlatLight technology can be used to many other LED applications, some of which Luminus is exploring through various licensing agreements.

Luminus has considerably ramped up shipments of PhlatLight chipsets, which are now used in projection TVs offered by Samsung and NuVision. Luminus most recent chipset, the PhlatLight PT120, is being mass produced for projection TVs with screen sizes as large as 61 inches, while its PT39 chipset is being used in LG Electronics HS101 pocket projector, the brightest LED front projector in production. The company continues to lead the industry in budding breakthrough LED light sources for superior display and other high-brightness applications.
