Types of Packaging Tapes

December 1st, 2007 · No Comments

Packaging tape is a bare essential for many kinds of packaging. Different kinds of tapes may be used for different forms of packages. For large cartons, secure nylon tapes may be used, whereas ordinary plastic tapes can be used for smaller packets. Packaging tape can be employed not just to secure the contents of a package, but also to harness the package appropriately for transport.

Adhesive Tapes
Adhesive tapes, as such, have various purposes. The most commonly used form of packaging tape is the adhesive tape. Adhesive tapes, on the other hand, are also available in various shapes and sizes. Whether transparent, translucent or opaque, adhesive tapes have a wide range of utilities other than simply packaging. Adhesive tapes of greater width and adhesive capabilities are generally effective while packing articles like lightweight electronic appliances. For example, televisions and monitors are occasionally packed using two-inch adhesive tapes. Heavier pieces of equipment like refrigerators, however, require stronger kinds of packaging tape like nylon tapes.

Different Kinds of Packaging Tapes
Different kinds of packaging tape are available, including acrylic tapes, rubber tapes, hot melt tapes, paper tapes, duct tapes, masking tapes, strapping tapes, printed tapes and filament tapes. Packaging tape, therefore, can be made of plastic, rubber or even paper. Double-sided tapes and specialty tapes are available for special purposes.

Security Packaging Tape
The security packaging tape serves a vital additional purpose. Most of these tapes are designed to mark the surface on which they are applied. Once they have been removed or tampered with, it is impossible to restore the package or the tape to its previous condition. These tapes ensure that a package or important documents have not been tampered with. This kind of packaging tape is widely employed with banking documents and courier envelopes. Safety tapes and non-slip tapes ensure that the package remains secure while being transported. Printed packaging tapes are also used by a number of firms today, particularly for marking the finished products of manufacturing industries.

Tape Dispensers and Tape Machines
Packaging tapes are generally provided on spools or rolls. Specialized equipment is rarely essential but available nonetheless for use with rolls of packaging tape. Tape dispensers and tape machines of various sizes and purposes are, therefore, available.

Manufacturers
Different industries manufacture wide ranges of packaging tape. A few examples of such firms are Stokvis Tapes, IPS Packaging and Titan. These firms manufacture different kinds of packaging tape – from standard all-purpose to heavy-duty tapes.

Domestic Usage
Packaging tape is a rare commodity that finds its use not only in industrial but also domestic fronts. For example, the cellotape is widely used at homes and schools for sealing purposes.
